Being aware of the comprehensive Mutah University strategic plan, for the completion of its Faculties and to cover the critical needs of the local and national community for different nursing fields, a decision for establishing nursing college was made by Mutah University council of trustees (decision number (23) dated November 29, 1999).
This faculty was established in order to meet the needs of the Jordanian community in general, and the southern region of the country in particular, for highly qualified nurses. Its establishment takes place as a result of cooperation between the university and the Ministry of Health. The college is approximately 7 km to the north of the main campus next to Al-Karak Hospital. The College of Nursing awards the graduates a bachelor degree in general nursing science after completion of 140 credit hours. A recent master degree program in Maternity and Newborn Health was established in 2013, and we are about to establish a Master degree program in clinical nursing. As part of our educational philosophy we are determined to prepare nurses who will continue to shape health care and promotion in this evolving environment at the national and international level. Our BSc and MSc programs in Nursing provide advanced training in theory, clinical practice, and research methods that prepare the next generation of scholars to advance the profession. We are very proud to have a highly educated and trained lecturing staff, who obtained their qualifications from well recognized international institutions such as UK, USA and Australia. The origin and the development:
Being aware of the comprehensive Mutah University strategic plan, for the completion of its colleges and to cover the critical needs of the local community for different nursing fields, a decision for establishing nursing college was made by Mutah University council of trustees (decision number (23) dated November 29, 1999).
This college was established in order to meet the needs of the Jordanian community in general, and the southern region of the country in particular, for highly qualified nurses. Its establishment takes place as a result of cooperation between the university and the Ministry of Health. The College is approximately 7 km to the north of the main campus next to Al-Karak Hospital. The College of Nursing awards the graduates a bachelor degree in general nursing science after completion of 133 credit hours.
The college has also very strong cooperative relationships with other Jordanian governmental Universities, Hospitals, and Health centers, in addition to the cooperative relationship with Jordanian Ministry of Health and Royal medical Services. Strong cooperative relationship provides different training sites for the students especially in Al-Karak hospital, various Health Centers in the region and Prince Ali Hospital.
An Agreement with Ministry of Health (MOH) was signed. For this reason, a building owned by MOH which located close to Al-Karak governmental hospital was allocated to be the campus of nursing college. Accordingly, the efforts to prepare teaching halls, clinical labs, and administrative offices as well as academic and administrative staff were accomplished. Additionally a group of scholarships in a variety of nursing specialization was provided to equip the newly established college with the needed lectures and instructors.
Actual educational activities were commenced on the beginning of the academic year 1999/2000, by enrollment of 58 students from south region of the kingdom. A special enrollment policy was set to encourage the southern region students and to cover the critical needs of this region. This enrollment policy was not exempted from ministry of higher education unified enrolment. Consequently, the first group of 58 students graduated at the end of the academic year 2004.
in addition to BSN program the school provide a master program of maternal and newborn health since academic year 2014/2015.
